Led his '64 team to the District 31 title and to the NAIA National Tournament. At the tournament Buzz finished fourth in the nation earning All-America honors.  He shot a 73-73-75-74 for a 298 total in the NCAA tournament held in Fort Worth, Texas.

In 1963, Costello won the District 31 Championship and placed ninth in the NAIA National Tournament, shooting a 71-72-79-75 for a 297 to earn second team All-America. He tied for first in the Metropolitan Collegiate Tourney. Team captain that year was Digger Phelps.

In '65  he again led Rider to the District 31 Championships as the individual Champ.

2-time NAIA All-American

According to his coach, Tiger Tom Leyden, and the April 8, 1965 Trenton Evening Times, Costello was the best Rider golfer ever and could have played college golf anywhere he wanted to.
