For 18 years in the 1960's and 70's, the most popular face on the Rider campus belonged to Marty Devlin, the Rider assistant athletic director, tennis coach and intramural director. During his tenure, the Rider intramural program attracted more than 90 percent of the school's male students and 50 percent of its female students in 20 sports and achieved national acclaim. It was unmatched in popularity among the student life programs.  Devlin also shared his great knowledge of the sport of tennis, coaching the Rider men's tennis team for a few years and compiled a record of 33-23, including a 12-3 record in 1976.
