Berenato coached at Rider for four years (1981-1985) and compiled a 60-55record in basketball, 68-49 in volleyball, and helped Rider women's sports move from Division II to Division I of AIAW (1981), and from AIAW to NCAA (1983).

Her basketball team was 26-7 in 1981-82, reaching the Eastern AIAW Division II Championship Game, one game away from the National Tournament. Her volleyball team was 20-8 in 1982 and 27-10 in 1983, Rider's first season in the East Coast Conference and the NCAA.

Berenato left Rider in 1985 to become the head women's basketball coach at Georgia Tech., and is currently coaching at Pitt.  Her Georga Tech teams have been nationally ranked, and Berenato was named the state of Georgia women's basketball Coach of the Year.

Four Rider hall of famers played for Berenato; Mary Ellen Baynes and Lisa Federici of basketball, Kathy Weiss of volleyball, and Meg Walsh of volleyball and basketball. Berenato also coached two All-ECC and two All-EAIAW Division II players.
