Wheat became the first Bronc to win the ECC cross country race, and to this day is still the only Rider cross country runner to ever qualify for the NCAA Championships. In track & field, Wheat still holds Rider records in the 5,000 meters, the 3,000 meters, the two-mile and the 1500 meter events.
