West Long Branch, NJ – The Rider University men's swimming and diving team opened the 2018 calendar year with a 155-50 dual-meet victory against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Monmouth on Tuesday evening at Steadman Natatorium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Broncs (4-2) defeated the Hawks (2-6) for the second straight season.
Rider was dominant in the pool and got off to a hot start, with swimmers finishing in the top-two places in each of the first seven events.
The Broncs got strong performances from sophomore
Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove), sophomore
Rich Fortels (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township), freshman
Alexander Trauger (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape Regional High School), junior
Porter Barnes (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional) and junior
Lucas Musselman (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield).
The quartet of Carey, Fortels, Barnes and Trauger opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.28.
Carey also won the 200 free with a time of 1:43.68 and he was part of the 400 free relay alongside Fortels,
Maciej Paz (Garfield, NJ/Paramus Catholic) and
Padraic Cassidy (Hollywood, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) that finished in first at 3:15.89.
Lucas Musselman picked up a pair of first-place results for the Broncs, winning both the 400 IM with a time of 4:05.40 and the 100 free at 47.43.
Notes
- Rider has won both of its dual meets against conference opponents this season.
- The Broncs won 10 of 11 events on Tuesday.
- The divers did not compete for the Broncs.
