Lawrenceville, NJ – The Rider University men's swimming and diving team cruised to a 185-105 dual-match victory over visiting Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at Coppola Pool inside the Maurer Center. The Broncs bounced back strong after a season-opening setback at Seton Hall two weeks ago.
Sophomore
Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) had a stellar meet for Rider, winning four events. To start the day, he was part of the Bronc 200 medley relay quartet alongside alongside
Carter Paules (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus),
Maciej Paz (Garfield, NJ/Paramus Catholic) and
Vincent Gibbons (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) that won and set a new pool record with a time of 1:32.18. Carey also won the 100 back (49.13), 200 back (1:52.75) and 100 fly (48.96).
Beside winning the 200 medley relay, Paules also finished first in both the 100 breast (58.84) and 200 breast (2:13.71).
Senior
Zack Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS North) won both the 100 free with a time of 46.67 and the 200 free (1:39.82), while finishing second in the 50 free (21.30). Beating Molloy in the 50 free was Gibbons with a mark of 21.17.
The Rider divers were dominant once again on Saturday, taking home the top-three spots in both 1M and 3M events. Freshman William Walles (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands High School) won the 1M with a mark of 292.95, while
Joseph Warker (Reading, PA/Wilson) came in second with 267.68 and
Patrik Rollefson (Paron,AR/ Pulaski Academy) landed in third 243.53. In the 3M, Walles was also victorious with a season-best score of 355.05 and he was followed by Warker (286.20) and Rollefson (250.73).
Notes & Quotes
- Carey ranks in the top-50 in Division I in two events after Lehigh dual meet. He is 35th in the country in the 100 back and he is also in the top-50 in the 100 fly. He is 7/10 of a second away from an NCAA Division I B Qualifying Standard in both events.
- Carey also set new Coppola pool records in the 100 fly and the 100 back as well as being part of the 200 medley relay record-setting time on Saturday.
- Molloy's time in the 200 free was also a new Coppola pool record.Â

- The men came in first in 12 of 16 events, including setting the new pool record in the 200 medley relay.
- Rider swept the top-three positions in five events, including both the 1M and 3M diving.
- Gibbons also finished third in the 200 free and second in the 500 free.

Cole May won the 200 fly (1:56.97) finishing ahead of
Griffin Hutton (1:58.64) and
Ben Smith (2:00.20) who finished second and third, respectively.

Up Next
Rider returns to action next Saturday, October 28, with a home dual meet against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Marist. The meet gets underway at 1:00 pm at Coppola Pool on campus during Homecoming weekend and it is the final home meet for the Broncs in 2017-18.
