What You Need To Know
- Rider will have its first of two straight home meets on Saturday, October 21, welcoming in Lehigh for a non-conference dual meet.
- The Broncs opened the year with a dual meet loss at Seton Hall before taking part in a training exhibition last week at Princeton.
- Following the first meet of the season, sophomore
Justin Carey was tabbed as the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week and freshman
Dillon Walles was named the MAAC Men's Diver of the Week.
- The weekly honor was the fourth of Carey's young career as he was named the swimmer of the week three times in 2016-17, while Walles becomes the first Bronc freshman to earning weekly diving distinction since teammate
Joseph Warker during the 2015-16 campaign.
- Carey picked up where he left off last year, winning three events and finishing second in another for the Broncs in a season-opening dual meet against Seton Hall last week. Carey was part of the 200 medley relay quartet that won with a time of 1:32.66 to score 11 points for Rider. He also won both the 100 back (50.23) and 100 fly (50.19), while finishing second in the 200 back (1:52.76).
- Walles made a splash for the Broncs in his collegiate debut last week. In the season-opening dual meet versus the Pirates, Walles won both the 1M and 3M diving events. He recorded a score of 316.20 in the 1M and he had a mark of 343.20 in the 3M.
- The dual meet loss at Seton Hall was the first since the 2014-2015 season for Rider.
- At SHU, the men came in first in eight events, including the 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay.
- The Broncs swept the diving events against the Pirates, earning the top-three spots in both the 1M and 3M.
- Senior
Zack Molloy started the year by winning the 100 free with a time of 46.80. He was also part of the 400 free relay alongside
Vincent Gibbons,
Maciej Paz and
Daniel Bonge that won with a time of 3:09.93.
