CLEVELAND, OH – Three members of the Rider University men's swimming and diving competed at the 2019 National Invitational Championship on Thursday. The three-day event takes place at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium and is being hosted by Cleveland State.
After the first day of action, the Broncs are 17th-place thanks to posting 29 points. Thus far the event, 24 teams have seen student-athletes earn points.
In the 50 back, junior
Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) earned a bronze medal with a third-place time of 21.95 in the A Finals. He qualified for the A Finals thanks to touching fourth overall at 22.43 in the prelims.
In the 50 fly, junior
Rich Fortels (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) finished ninth overall with a time of 22.23 in the B Finals. Fortels finished second in the B Final heat.
The other Bronc to see action on Thursday was junior
Cole May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills). He just missed qualifying for the finals in the 50 fly. He ended up in 23rd-place in the prelims with a time of 22.85.
Rider returns to action at the event on Friday, March 15. Prelims take place in the morning and finals will begin at 6:00 pm.
