Rider Hosts Monmouth Friday Night
LAWRENCEVILLE—Winners of fourth straight games, the Rider University field hockey team returns to action on Friday night when the Broncs host Monmouth University in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and hOURglass Rivalry game on Ben Cohen Field, beginning at 7pm.
Rider (7-5) is led by freshman Allison Baligian (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) who leads the team in scoring with six goals and 12 points.
In the goal, Rider has been led by the recent hot play of junior goalie Joelle Prettyman (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) who was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for all games last week, compiling a 2-0 record with a goals against average of 0.87.
Friday evening will also be Rider's annual Play 4 The Cure game where the Broncs wear pink to raise awareness and donations in the battle against breast cancer.
Monmouth (5-6) is led by Trish O'Dwyer who has eight goals and six assists (22 points) for the 2014 season.
Rider defeated Monmouth on November 1, 2013 in West Long Branch to clinch the inaugural MAAC Regular Season Title. Rider and Monmouth have played 34 times with the Broncs holding a 24-7-3 advantage in the series that began in 1977.
