What You Need To Know
- Both Saturday and Sunday's match will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
- On Saturday, the Rider Pep Band will kick off its performance season.
- On Sunday, the Broncs will be giving out free phone case card holders to the first 75 students. Be sure to arrive early to snag one as they will go fast.
- The Broncs were selected second by the league's coaches in the MAAC Preseason Poll. Rider finished second behind Fairfield during the regular season and reached the MAAC Championship match before falling to the Stags.
-The Broncs won a program-record 14 MAAC matches to earn a program-best two seed in last year's tournament. The Broncs had previously finished third in 2004, 2018, and 2019.
- Rider had won six-straight conference matches before falling to Iona last weekend. The Broncs bounced back with a four-set victory over Manhattan.
- Morgan Romano (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) was named to First-Team All-MAAC honors by the league last season. Romano was also named to the preseason All-MAAC team.
- With another All-Conference honor, Romano would become the first player in program history to earn four All-MAAC honors during her career.
- Romano now has 1,356 career kills, good for third in program history after passing Hailey Riede '19 in Rider's match at George Washington. Next on the list is Jaclyn Levi '05, who ended her career with 1,546.
- In the Broncs' first tournament of the season, the dōTERRA Classic, freshman Carley McAleavey (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) earned All-Tournament honors after racking up 15 kills on .250 hitting over the three matches.
- McAleavey and fellow freshman Kianny Santiago (Hoboken, NJ/Hudson Catholic) each racked up a career-high 13 kills last time out at Manhattan.
- At the Steel Classic Tournament, Pamela Loh (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) and Brynn Johnson (River Falls, WI/River Falls) earned All-Tournament Team honors. Johnson had 16 kills on .200 hitting across the three matches to go along with five blocks. Loh had 32 digs in the three matches, led by a 16 dig effort in Rider's win over Cleveland State.
- Loh now has 862 career digs. She is attempting to become just the 16th Bronc in program history to reach 1,000 for her career.
- In the Dig for the District Tournament, Nicole Wilkinson (New Castle, IN/New Castle) and Julia Slivka (Adamstown, MD/Tuscarora). Wilkinson exploded with 11 kills and five blocks against George Washington, both career-highs. She finished the weekend with 17 kills on .297 hitting. Slivka had 69 assists and 24 digs in the three matches during the tournament. In Rider's win over Georgetown, Slivka had her third double-double of the season with 31 assists and 13 digs, while also adding five aces.
- Due to illness, the Broncs were forced to shuffle the lineup last weekend, resulting in Romano leading the Broncs in assists. The Broncs are expected to be at full strength this weekend.
- Siena leads the all-time series over the Broncs 28-15, but Rider has won six-straight against the Saints.
- The Saints are 3-11 on the season, with 1-3 MAAC mark. The Saints fell to both Quinnipiac and Fairfield last weekend.
- Emily Wunder leads the Saints offense this season with 156 kills on .218 hitting.
- Marist leads the all-time series over the Broncs 30-21. The teams have split the season series in each of the last seven seasons. Both meetings between the two last season went to five sets.
- The Red Foxes are 7-7 overall with a 3-1 conference record. All four of the Red Foxes conference matchups this season have been sweeps, with wins over Iona, Manhattan, and Quinnipiac, and a loss to Fairfield.
- Marist is led by a potent offense with Sasha van der Merwe, Gabrielle Heller, and Jordan Newblatt all with over 100 kills on the season.
