Volleyball Tripped Up by Delaware

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rider University volleyball team was defeated Thursday afternoon at the Rutgers Classic, falling to Delaware 28-26, 25-16, 25-10. The Broncs fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Blue Hens improve to 4-2.
 
Tied 6-6 in the opening set, Rider scored four-straight points, getting a kill and a block from Madison Daley (Appleton, WI/Xavier) along with an ace from Simone Langford (Hollywood, FL/Flanagan). With Rider up 12-9, Delaware countered with a 5-1 run, taking back the lead at 14-13. The Blue Hens would get the match's first set point at 24-22. The Broncs fought off a pair of set points, then another at 25-24 before taking the lead, 26-25, on a kill by Molly Rohde (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville). Delaware would fight off the Rider set point and score two additional points to take the opening set.
 
Delaware took control early in set two, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead. Down 10-3, Rider went on a 4-1 run with kills by Maisie Nawrocki (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby South) and Daley, but the Blue Hens would respond and the Broncs would get no closer in the set.
 
Rider jumped out to a 5-3 lead in set three with Rohde, Aubrey Baker (Vestal, NY/Vestal[Merrimack]), Nawrocki, and Annabell Zachritz (Gainesville, FL/The Rock School) picking up kills. Delaware took over the remainder of the match from there, outscoring the Broncs 22-5 over the remainder of the set to complete the match.
 
QUOTES & NOTES
- Delaware extends its lead in the all-time series to 16-4.
- Makenna Mason (Hilton Head Island, SC/Hilton Head) had a team-high 15 assists, giving her six matches this season and 83 matches in her career with double digits.
- Langford led Rider with a match-high 16 digs, giving her double figures for the sixth time this season and 18th time in her career.
