PHILADELPHIA AND BALTIMORE, MD – The Rider University men's tennis team competed at ITA Northeast Regionals and the Greyhounds Men's Tennis Classic on Friday.
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) and
Pablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain/Cambridge International School) advanced with a first-round doubles' victory at ITA's, while Tangri,
Roger Pelaez Martinez (Girona, Spain/Saint George's School) and
Stavros Hadjivarnava (Moutagiaka, Cyrus/British College of Gava) all forced a third set in their first-round singles matches. Tangri and Salar Carrera defeated Niagara's Roberto Vaca and Bryce Bodak, 8-7 (4). They advance to face Drexel's Alan Jesudason and Alex De Sousa tomorrow morning.
At the Greyhounds Men's Tennis Classic, hosted by Loyola, teams from Loyola, Howard and Coppin State competed in compass draws, with doubles tandems from each team also competing in singles matches against the other team's duos.
Giacomo Ghitti (Brescia, Italy/Marco Polo) and
Vishal Ganeshan (Sydney, Australia/Knox Grammar School) advanced, 2-1, over Loyola's George Bulger and Dylan Koziol. The Broncs' duo earned a 6-1 doubles win, before Ghitti defeated Bulger, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4), to give Rider the win.
Jake Grimes (Atlanta, GA/Johnson Ferry Christian Academy) and
Dylan Lachmanen (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) got past Loyola's Gilberto Rivera-Gordillo and Jorge Quintana, 2-1. The Broncs won in doubles, 6-2, before Grimes made quick work of Rivera-Gordillo, 6-2, 6-1, to secure the victory. Play resumes at Loyola tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
