LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Golf Digest has honored Rider University Men's Golf Head Coach
Jason Barry as one of its "Best Young Teachers" for the third time, the publication today announced. The biennial list identifies teachers under 40 worthy of recognition. The latest group of 177 award winners are listed in the link provided.
Now in his eighth year as Rider Head Coach, Barry has breathed new life into the program. Heading into the 2020 spring season, the Broncs were picked as the preseason favorite to win their first-ever MAAC Championship prior to the cancellation of the season.
In the Fall of 2019, the team set the program's single-round record of 278 while also winning its first tournament in 13 years at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational. For the Fall,
Jake Sollon averaged 72.4 under Barry's tutelage and was later named the Broncs' first PING All-Northeast Region selection in 10 years. Then-freshman
Connor Bekefi averaged 73.3 and then-junior
Austin Devereux averaged 74.2. They posted a 294.9 stroke average and a 61-16-2 record, including a 14-1-1 mark against MAAC competition.
