MAAC Indoor Track 40th Anniversary Team Announced

Fenlator, Burroughs, Hamer Highlighted

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) celebrates its 40th Anniversary throughout the 2020-21 academic year, continuing its mission to provide student-athletes the opportunity to succeed in both academics and athletics.

The 40th Anniversary Indoor Track & Field Team highlights some of the best student-athletes in MAAC history. MAAC Indoor Track and Field traces back to 1989, when Army swept the first MAAC Championship for both the men and women. The MAAC Indoor Track and Field Championships are set to return Feb. 20-21 in 2021 at the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center in New York City. The following are Rider's honorees on the MAAC 40th Anniversary Teams:

Head Coach

Bob Hamer

In his 12 years as Head Coach at Rider, Hamer has led the Broncs to two MAAC Outdoor Championships (2011, 2013) and one MAAC Indoor Championship (2017). In 2017, he was named the MAAC Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year after the men's team captured their first-ever MAAC Indoor Championship. Later that season, he was also tabbed as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Indoor Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year. He was named 2013 MAAC Outdoor Coach of the Year after leading both the Rider men and women's teams to Championships, while also earning MAAC Outdoor Coach of the Year in 2011 and Indoor Coach of the Year in 2010. All told, he's coached five indoor major award winners and three outdoor major award winners.

Women

Jazmine Fenlator 2003-07
A two-time Rider Female Athlete of the Year, Fenlator was Rider's first NCAA Track & Field Regional automatic qualifier. She earned All-East honors eight times in the shot put, weight throw and the discus, setting Rider records in all three events, along with the hammer. Fenlator was named one of the top 25 athletes in the first 25 year history of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Following her illustrious Rider career, Fenlator took part in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi as a member of the United States bobsled team, before competing for her father's native Jamaica in the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang.

Tabatha Haskins 2005-09
Haskins placed second in the triple jump with a then-Rider record distance  (11.63m) at the 2009 MAAC Indoor Championships, and was also second in the long jump (5.53m), third in the 55 meter hurdles (8.61), fifth in the shot put (10.16m) and fifth in the high jump (1.55m). She placed second in the triple jump (11.26m), third in the 55m hurdles (8.57), fifth in the long jump (5.07m) and seventh in the high jump (1.50m) at 2008 MAAC Indoor Championships. At the 2006 MAAC Indoor Championships, she placed second in the 55m hurdles (8.47), second in the triple jump (11.47m) and third in the long jump (5.04m). She was also accomplished in the outdoor season, earning five silver medals and two bronze at MAAC Championships. She set the Rider outdoor records in the 100m hurdles (14.88) and the triple jump (38'1.5"), with both marks having since been broken.

Mia Riley 2010-13
Riley owned the Indoor Rider records for the 55m and 60m at the time of her graduation and still holds the record as a member of the 4x200 relay team (1:43.71). In 2013, she won the shot put (12.53m) at MAAC Championships. In 2012, she took silver in the 60m dash (7.76) and bronze in the 4x400 (3:56.50). At the 2011 MAAC Championships, she won the 55m (7.20), breaking a Rider record that had stood since 2001. She placed fifth in the 100m at the 2010 Indoor MAAC Championships. At the Penn State Relays, she was on the 4x200m relay team that broke the old Rider record. Riley also achieved in the outdoor season, racking up two gold medals, four silver and two bronze in her four years.

Karoline Sandvig 2014-18
Sandvig finished fourth in the weight throw to earn All-East honors at the 2018 ECAC Indoor Championships. She won gold and set a new MAAC record in the weight throw with a toss 18.34m at the MAAC Indoor Championships as a senior. Sandvig earned silver and finished second in both 2016 and 2017, while taking bronze as a freshman. She holds the Rider record in the 20lb. Weight (60-2). Sandvig also earned silver in the hammer throw at the 2018 MAAC Outdoor Championships.

Lauryn Strebek 2010-14
Strebek medaled at MAAC Championships in three-straight years in the triple jump. She took gold as a sophomore in 2012, silver as a junior in 2013 and bronze as a senior in 2014, when she posted her MAAC Championship personal best 11.56m jump. Strebek was also a three-time MAAC Outdoor Championship gold medalist in the triple jump.

Men

James Burroughs 2010-13
The 2011-12 Rider University Clair Bee Co-Male Athlete of the Year, Burroughs won gold in the 60m hurdles at the 2013 MAAC Championships, finishing in 7.96 seconds. He also took silver in 2012 and won bronze with the 4x400 meter relay team. Burroughs was also highly successful in the outdoor season, finishing 22nd in the 400m hurdles at the NCAA East Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He earned All-East honors with a sixth place finish in the 110m hurdles at the IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships and won the 110m hurdles with an IC4A qualifying time of 14.74. He won the 400m hurdles, tying a championship record with a time of 52.39 at the MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

David Payne 2004-07
Payne holds Rider Indoor records in the 55m (6.36), 60m (6.81), 200m (21.35) and 300m (34.88). He was also part of the record-setting 4x200 relay team (1:28.30). He earned 2005-06 All-East indoor honors when he placed seventh in the 200m (21.40) at the IC4A Championships. He also placed ninth in the 55m dash (6.45) at the IC4As, where he broke the Rider record in the 200 meters (21.35) in the preliminaries. He won the 55m dash and the 200m (21.46) at the 2006 MAAC Indoor Championships. He set two Rider records and qualified for the IC4A's in the 60m (6.89) and 200m (21.72) at the Winter Games. He was an All-East indoor performer indoor in 2004-05 when he finished seventh in the finals of the 55m dash (6.51) and eighth in the 200m dash (21.89) at the 2004-05 IC4A Championships and was also a member of the All-East 4x100m relay. He also placed second in the 55m dash (6.45) at the 2004-05 indoor championships.

Steve Brown 2010-14
Brown earned All-East in back-to-back seasons, taking the honor in the long jump in 2012 (23-03.25), before being honored for his performance in the triple jump in 2013 (14.89m). He finished sixth in both instances. His 15.11m triple jump at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals as a junior still stands as a Rider record. He placed third in the long jump with a distance of 22'7.25" at the 2013 MAAC Indoor Championships. A year prior, he finished second in the triple jump (14.97m) and third in the long jump (7.07m) at the 2012 MAAC Indoor Championships. He narrowly missed All-East honors as a freshman in 2011, finishing ninth in the long jump (6.91m) and 13th in the triple jump (14.37m) at IC4A Indoor Championships. He earned gold in the long jump (7.22m) and silver in the triple jump (14.76m) at the 2011 MAAC Indoor Championships. Brown also achieved at MAAC Outdoor Championships, earning a gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Johnathan Jackson 2013-17
Jackson holds the Rider record in both the 800m (1:50.53) and 1000m (2:24.51). He's a four-time All-East performer, winning silver in the 1000m (2:24.51) in 2016 and taking bronze with the 4x800 relay team (7:32.83) in 2017. He also finished sixth in the 1000m (2:26.73) in 2017 and seventh in the 800m (1:52.16) in 2015. He won one MAAC Indoor gold medal in the 800m (1:53.06) in 2017, while also earning bronze with the 4x400 relay team (3:20.75) to help Rider to its first-ever MAAC Indoor Championship. He also took silver in the 800m (1:50.53) and bronze in the 4x400 relay (3:17.81) at the 2015 MAAC Indoor Championships. Jackson also achieved in the outdoor season, earning All-East four times, including two silvers and a bronze with the 4x800 relay team and a silver in the 800m in 2016.He also won MAAC Outdoor gold four times, winning twice each in the 800m and with the 4x800 relay team in 2016 and 2017. He also took bronze with the 4x400 relay in 2015.

George Solujich 2011-15
Solujich set the Rider record in the shot put (55-3½) in December 2014. He was an All-East honoree with a sixth-place finish in 2015 (55-2), while earning MAAC gold in 2013 and 2015. He also took bronze in 2012. Solujich also earned three MAAC bronze medals in the shot put in the outdoor season, while taking All-East with a sixth-place finish as a senior.
