LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Five Rider University wrestlers are ranked nationally and the Broncs maintained their No. 25 ranking in the latest NWCA Coaches' Poll, the organization today announced. Rider won both of its Mid-American Conference duals this past weekend, defeating Edinboro and Old Dominion.
Redshirt senior
Jesse Dellavecchia (Great River, NY/East Islip) is ranked as highly as No. 4 in the nation at 157 lbs. by WrestleStat. He earned a pair of victories this week, including a 1-0 decision over Old Dominion's Larry Early, who'd been named MAC East Division Wrestler of the Week last week and had won eight-straight matches. Dellavecchia has now won eight-straight matches of his own. He's posted a 22-2 record, with his only two losses coming to wrestlers ranked in the Top 5 in the country.
Ethan Laird (Waterford, PA/General McLane) is the next-highest ranked Bronc, coming in at No. 8 by FloWrestling. Laird is 19-5 on the year, including a 5-0 mark in league duals.
Dean Sherry (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) is ranked as highly as No. 17 at 174 lbs. by TrackWrestling. He's won 15 matches, including a 4-1 mark against MAC foes.
Rounding out the Broncs recognized nationally are
Peter Lipari (Byram Township, NJ/Bergen Catholic [Rutgers]) and
Jonathan Tropea (Harrington Park, NJ/Saint Joseph (Montvale)) at 141 and 125 lbs., respectively. Lipari is ranked as highly as No. 24 by FloWrestling after a pair of impressive wins over the weekend, while Tropea is ranked as highly as No. 30 by The Open Mat.
The Broncs return to action Saturday at 7 p.m., when they play host to George Mason. Prior to the dual, the Broncs will honor their eight-member senior class during Senior Night ceremonies.
