APALACHIN, NY –
Jake Sollon (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) shot a one-under 71 and
Nathan Bazant (Venetia, PA/Trinity [California (PA)]) was a stroke back at an even-par 72 as the Rider University men's golf team sits tied for fifth with a team score of 298 following the first round of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational.
Griffin Smith (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) carded a 77, while
Thomas Durkin (Suffield, CT/Suffield) shot a 78 to account for the Broncs' four scores.
Andrew Forjan (York, PA/York Catholic) was two shots back of Durkin with an 80.
Host Binghamton has taken a commanding lead in the team scoring with a 277, while Longwood is second at 289. St. Bonaventure and Columbia follow at 293 each, while the Broncs are tied with Robert Morris at 298.

- Sollon led the Broncs with four birdies on the day, while Bazant and Durkin had three each.
- The round was the Broncs' fourth of the year under 300 out of six rounds played.
- The Broncs finished the round ahead of MAAC foes Monmouth (299), Niagara (307), Canisius (309) and Siena (318). Rider has finished ahead of all MAAC foes in each of its first two tournaments of the year and looks to make it three-straight Monday, when play wraps up at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational.
- The Broncs made up ground on the Par 5's, playing them at two-under.
