Rider at Colonial Relays
WILLIAMSBURG, VA—The Broncs competed at the 51st annual Colonial Relays, hosted by the College of William and Mary Thursday-Saturday. “We try to come down here every year to try to break a record or two and we were able to do that today,” said Rider head coach Bob Hamer.
On Saturday, for the Rider men sophomore David Gaynor (Paterson, NJ/Passaic Co. Vo Tech) placed sixth in the discus (130'3”).
The distance medley relay team of senior Tom McLaughlin (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor), sophomore Anthony Ardino (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield), freshman Alvin Abraham (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and junior Johnathan Jackson (Roselle, NJ/Magnet) placed fourth in 10:10.07.
Junior Erik Adamcik (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) placed seventh in the pole vault (15'1”).
For the Rider women, senior Daria Chadwick (Summit, NJ) won the high jump (5'5”). “She's been working really hard,” Hamer said. “She's been doing a great job improving every day.”
The 1600 sprint medley relay team of Lexi Taylor, senior Nicole Georgia (Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton), senior Madeline Hummel (Marlton, NJ/Holy Cross) and senior Stephanie Welte (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil's Academy) broke a 15-year Rider record with a time of 4:09.32 to place eighth. “That was a good effort,” Hamer said. “We were hoping for a little faster time but we're excited we broke the record. It only took 15 years.”
The 4 x 1500m relay team of senior Nicolette Mateescu (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick), junior Megan McGarrity (Philadelphia, PA/Saint Basil),sophomore Alexandra Santora (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone) and graduate student Katie Kinkead (Newtown, PA/Central Bucks East) placed 12th in a Rider record time of 19:39.85. “Niky ran a great opening leg and set the tone,” Hamer said. “It was a 35 second improvement over last year's time.”
Senior Olivia Rosenberger (North Wales, PA/Gwynedd Mercy) placed 10th in the triple jump (34'9”).
The 4 x 200 relay team of freshman Destiny Kearney (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South), freshman Morgyn Bennett (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle Tech), senior Miranda Roberts (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and freshman Angela Cotugno (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville) placed 15th in 1:45.47.
Freshman Ashley Berry (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) placed ninth in the shot put (40'11.5”).
The 4 x 100 relay team of Roberts, Bennett, Taylor and sophomore Lexie Fraction (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) placed 17th in 49.62.
Also for the Rider men freshman Marcell Brown (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) threw the discus 115'5” to place 25th .
The sprint medley relay team of junior Devon Jefferson (Franklin Park, NJ/Franklin), sophomore Andrew Horberg (Somerset, NJ/St. Joseph's Metuchen), freshman Demetrious Fitzpatrick (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and freshman Dalin Hackley (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) finished in 3:35.70 to place 12th.
The 4 x 200 relay team of Horberg, senior Justin Veltri (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), senior Dameon Haynes (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) and sophomore Christin Patrick (East Orange/Seton Hall Prep.) placed 10th in 1:31.25.
Also for the Rider women sophomore Lexie Taylor (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) ran the 5,000m in 19:39.88, freshman Heather Cullen (Waretown, NJ/Southern Regional) threw the discus 93'11” to place 26th and sophomore Dakota Karras (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) triple jumped 34'2”.
The Broncs are home April 9 to host the Rider Invitational.
