Rider 3rd at MAAC Championships

Ritter Most Outstanding Performer

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ—Both the Rider men's and women's teams placed third at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Monmouth University.

“We had a goal coming in to finish second,” said Rider head coach Bob Hamer.

With a gold (steeplechase) and a pair of silvers (1500, 5,000m) senior Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Tech) was named the Championship Most Outstanding Performer. “It was a big day for Emily,” Hamer said.  “She had the big win last night (steeplechase) and came out today and ran a great 1500. If the meet was close we were going to put her in the 5K to see if we could make a run for second place and she went out there and ran a great race. To go out and break the Rider record was pretty impressive.”

On Sunday Ritter placed second in the 1500m (4:33.50) and second in the 5,000m with a Rider record and ECAC qualifying time of 16:55.37. “She's just the second person in Rider history to break 17 minutes in a 5K,” Hamer said. “That was tremendous. She is just a special athlete.”

On Sunday for the men sophomore Erik Adamcik (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) won the pole vault (4.70m). “Erik has been very consistent all year,” Hamer said.

Sophomore Devon Jefferson (Franklin Park, NJ/Franklin) placed second in the 400 hurdles (55.41) and fourth in the 110m hurdles (14.81). “Devon has had a great year,” Hamer said.

On Sunday for the Rider women, senior Taylor Harmon (Robbinsville, NJ) won the high jump with an ECAC qualifying PR height of 5'7” for her third career MAAC gold.  “Taylor is just incredible,” Hamer said.  “She's a 'big-meet' jumper. I'm really proud of her, to think she came to Rider as a cheerleader and switched over to track and she's been one of our more decorated individual performers.”

Junior Nicolette Mateescu (Kendall Park/South Brunswick) placed third in the 5,000m (17:15.35) and junior Olivia Rosenberger (North Wales, PA) placed third in the triple jump (11.43m).
