LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Broncs won four matches with a pin and a major decision but it was not enough in an Eastern Wrestling League loss to Cleveland State Saturday afternoon.

“My hat's off to Cleveland State,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  “They are a very good team and they wrestled hard today. They certainly looked very ready.”

For Rider (11-7, 2-2 EWL) junior Conor Brennan (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) won by fall for the final score. It was the second day in a row that Brennan won with a pin. “Conor's intensity and his mat awareness is very good,” Taylor said.  “When he reads something he doesn't hesitate.  Two days in a row he looked very sharp.”

Freshman B.J. Clagon (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) won a major decision to improve to 21-7 on the season. “It took B.J. a little while to figure things out but he made some adjustments that were very nice.”

Senior Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gateway) won to get Rider on the board. “That was a hard-fought battle,” Taylor said.  “Chuck did a nice job of rebounding from the overtime loss last night.”

Freshman Chad Walsh (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) won for the 24th time this year and remains undefeated in the EWL at 4-0.

Cleveland State (6-2, 3-2 EWL) jumped out to an 18-0 lead, winning the first six bouts.

Rider had won its last three matches and four of its last five before losing Saturday.

Rider travels to Lock Haven for an Eastern Wrestling League dual meet Friday at 7pm. “That will be another tough match,” Taylor said.
