APALACHIN, N.Y.—The Rider University golf team played at the fourth annual Binghamton Fall Invite October 4-5 that was contested at The Links at Hiawatha Landing, a par 72 course that spans over 7,200 yards.

For Rider on Monday, the team posted a round of 297, finishing seventh of 16 teams (600) after opening the tournament with a 303 on Sunday.

“We played better this round but still left a bunch of shots out there,” said head coach Jason Barry.  “We are happy with our progress and are looking forward to next week in Connecticut.”

For the Broncs individually, junior Aaron Simone (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) scored rounds of 75-68 (143) and finished in fifth place out of 85 golfers and his one under par score was only three shots behind medalist Jack Gianniny (Delaware) who finished at 140 (65-75).

“Aaron worked his way around the course and played a great round,” said Barry.

Junior Parker Mann (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) began the day in seventh place and finished 11th after rounds of 72-74 (146).

Senior Brian Dempster (Robbinsville/Notre Dame) shot back to back rounds of 77 (154) to tie for 51st.

Senior Tom Yarson (Montgomery) tied for 65th place with rounds of 79-78 (157) and senior Joe Hughes (Tabernacle/Seneca) shot 169 with rounds of 86-83 to tie for 82nd.

Last season Rider (611) was 10th (301-310) in this tournament with Simone placing 31st after rounds of 78 and 73.

Delaware (580) won the team title, followed by Rhode Island (582), Towson (590), Saint Bonaventure (593), Binghamton (599), Colgate (599) and Rider (600).

Lafayette (606) and Canisius (606) tied for eighth place, followed by Niagara (611), UMass. Lowell (612), Fairleigh Dickinson (612), Bucknell (614), LIU Brooklyn (614), Monmouth (617) and Ottawa (626).

Rider competes in the Connecticut Cup October 12-13.
