Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) shot even-par 72 Saturday in the third, and final, round at MAAC Championships at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course. Giovacchini finished sixth individually at 69-74-72-215 (-1), while the Rider University men's golf team shot 300 (+12) Saturday to finish sixth as a team (283-301-300-884, +20).
Giovacchini earned MAAC All-Championship Team with his sixth-place finish, bookending the honor he earned as a freshman in 2022, when his second-place finish helped the Broncs to the team title. Giovacchini's Saturday round featured four birdies, while he finished with he carded 11 birdies for the three-round tournament.
Joey Lostumbo (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) shot 74 (+2), capping a consistent tournament in which he shot 75-75-74-224, +8), good for 22
nd.
Zachary Fisher (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) carded a 77 (+5) Saturday and finished the tournament at 69-77-77-223, +7), taking 21
st place.
Andrew Bilson's (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) 77 (+5) also counted on Saturday, with the freshman taking 43
rd for the tournament (72-83-77-232, +16). Fellow freshman
Jacob Delaney (Stockton, CA/Saint Mary's) shot 79 Saturday to finish in 31
st place (73-75-79-227, +11).
NOTES
- Fairfield shot three-under 285 Saturday to take the team title at 862 (-2). Sacred Heart (864, E), Iona (867, +3), Manhattan (879, +15) and Mount St. Mary's (882, +18) followed in front of the Broncs (884, +20). Merrimack (890, +26), Canisius (902, +38), Siena (902, +38), Niagara (906, +42) and Saint Peter's (928, +64) rounded out the tournament field.
- Tadgh Burke (Fairfield) led wire-to-wire and took medalist honors at 210 (-6), a stroke ahead of Aaron Sorkin of Mount St. Mary's, whose 68 (-4) on Saturday positioned him just behind Burke at 211 (-5) for the tournament.
- Giovacchini's one-under performance for the tournament put him into a five-way tie for sixth place individually. The Top 10 finishers (11 with the tie) earned MAAC All-Championship Team honors.
- The Broncs' 166 par's were most in the tournament field, with Lostumbo pacing the field with 38 individually.
- Delaney's -2 performance on the Par 3's tied for best in the tournament.
