Rider Tied for 13th of 16

ELLINGTON, Conn.—The Rider University golf team is competing at the 54-hole Connecticut Cup, hosted at the par 72, 6,936 yard Ellington Ridge Country Club.

After the opening 36 holes, Rider is tied for 13th place out of 16 teams with a total of 619 after scoring rounds of 308 and 311.

“We started out poorly both rounds but grinded out the best score we could,” said head coach Jason Barry.  “We didn't have our best stuff today and made some big numbers on the tougher holes.”

For Rider individually, junior Aaron Simone (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) is tied for 47th out of 88 golfers after rounds of 74 and 79 for a total of 153 heading in to the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

Senior Tom Yarson (Montgomery) is tied for 55th (154) after rounds of 78 and 76.

Junior Parker Mann (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) is tied for 61st (155) with rounds of 77 and 78.

Junior Sam DiGaetano (Titusville/Hopewell Valley Central) is tied for 70th 79-78 with an opening total of 157 and senior Joe Hughes (Tabernacle/Seneca) is 80th (161) after opening with rounds of 82 and 79.

Rider had 50 pars and six birdies on the opening day.

TCU (564) leads the field, followed by Dartmouth (579), Connecticut (581), Boston College (588) and Bryant (588).

Chelso Barrett (TCU) shot rounds of 66 and 69 (135) and his nine under par score is two shots clear of the field.

The final round begins at 8:30am Tuesday.

“The key for tomorrow is getting off to a better start,” Barry added.  “We need to play the tough holes better.”
