Broncs Excel on Field, In Classroom
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The 2013 Rider University men's soccer team recorded the program's most wins since the 2000 season. The squad produced its first All-Conference selection since 2009 and its first First Team All-Conference player since 1999.
However, the team's most successful accomplishments may have come off the field, and in the classroom.
The Bronc Booters' team grade point average of 3.44 last semester was its best in five years, with 19 of the 22 players compiling a 3.0 or better. The team grade point average for the 2013-14 academic school year was 3.33, the best ever.
“We are making great progress both on and off the field,” said Rider head coach Charlie Inverso, who will guide his fourth Rider team in 2014. “This is a great sign to accentuate that fact that Rider is not only a great place to play soccer, it is a great place to study. I am really proud of our current team. I want to congratulate not only the players but the staff who deserve the credit for putting this great semester together. “
The 2013 soccer team also produced Rider's first male Academic All-American since 1995.
“Sonya Hurt (Athletics Academic Coordinator), Jenny Scudder (Assistant Director of the Student Success Center), Kendall Friedman (Director, Student Success Center) and Jenny Chiaramonti (Coordinator, Student Success Center) all played a huge part in the players' success,” Inverso said.
