Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls to Iona, 3-0

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Iona scored in the 25th, 37th and 81st minutes to defeat the Rider University men's soccer game, 3-0, Saturday afternoon on Ben Cohen Field. With the loss, the Broncs drop to 1-9-4 (0-4-3 MAAC), while the Gaels improve to 5-3-4 (3-1-2 MAAC).

In the 25th minute, Rider goalkeeper Marius Helias (Saint Florentin, France) made the initial save of Florian Schutt's header off a corner kick. But the rebound went out to Emilio Rossi for a right-footed shot from 12 yards out through traffic and into the left upper 90 at 24:59. The Gaels would again score off a corner at 36:04, with Schutt heading it in, inside the left post from inside the six-yard box for a 2-0 Iona lead.

The Broncs' best chance of the day came in the 58th minute, with Drew Heil (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) creating space at the top of the 18-yard box for Lovro Kostanjsek (Domzale, Slovenia/Gimnazija Domzale), whose low shot clanged off the left post.

The Gaels added a third goal in the 81st minute on a give-and-go into the box between John Oualaalou and Andrey Mora Bravo, with Oualaalou finishing on the play.

Quotes & Notes
"The one thing with this group is they're willing to fight. We say, 'fight until the final whistle,' not only today, but whenever that final whistle is going to be on the season. We're going to fight and give everything we possibly can for each other and Rider. So, I know this is a group that's not going to quit. They keep going. They keep trying to find it, find that goal. I love these guys. It's unfortunate. I need to figure it out. It's not them, it's me. We'll figure it out eventually here, but we've got to score goals. Goals change games. They obviously found goals. We didn't."  – Rider Head Coach Chad Duernberger
