JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rider University men's soccer team was defeated, 1-0, in Jersey City Wednesday afternoon by Saint Peter's. The Broncs fall to 1-8-4 on the year and 0-3-3 in MAAC games, while the Peacocks improve to 4-7-1 on the season and 2-4 in league play
Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the opening half with the best chance for either side coming midway through the period when the Peacocks unleashed a flurry of attacks, earning three-straight corners, including a shot that was required to be pushed wide by Rider goalie
Marius Helias (Saint Florentin, France) before a shot that went high ended the attack.
Less than a minute into the second half, the Peacocks earned a free kick from just outside the attacking third. The intial play resulted in a shot that was saved, but the rebound found the head of a Saint Peter's player, who finished into the back of the net for the game's first score.
The Broncs best chance at the equalizer came on a cross in the final minute, when
Lovro Kostanjsek (Domzale, Slovenia/Gimnazija Domzale) got the ball with space at the top of the box, but he could not get his shot through the traffic in front and the Peacocks held on for the victory.
