Saint Thomas Aquinas 6, Rider University 1
LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match to Saint Thomas Aquinas on Sunday afternoon.
The Broncs lost 6-1.
“Saint Thomas was an experienced team that played much better in the windy conditions,” said head coach Ed Torres. “They kept the ball in play longer and served a little better as well. Generally speaking, they played a steadier match and that was the winning formula for them.”
For Rider (1-3), senior Sean Sweeney (Franklinville/Delsea Regional)) won 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles.
“Sean had a good day,” said Torres. “He played steady, kept the ball in play and served well. I'm proud of him for winning the match.”
Sweeney teamed up with senior Kyle Stratton (Stratford/Sterling) to take four games at second doubles before losing 8-4.
Rider hosts NJIT September 25 at 3 p.m.
