Broncs Host NJIT Tuesday
LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider baseball team will attempt to snap a five-game skid when the Broncs host the Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology Today.
Game time is 3:30pm on the Sonny Pittaro Field.
NJIT (6-12) won one of three games at Hartford over the weekend to end a four-game losing streak. The Highlanders won one of three games with Saint Peter's the previous weekend.
NJIT is led by senior James D'Aloia, who red-shirted last year with a knee injury and is batting .393 this season with 24 hits and 20 RBI.
Rider won 6-4 at NJIT last year. The two teams have met four times with Rider winning three.
The young Broncs (7-19) have already lost more games than last year's veteran squad (33-18). Rider has lost seven games this year when the Broncs out-hit their opponent, due in part to a team earned run average of 6.15. Rider's opponents own a 3.21 earned run average this year.
The Rider offense has been led by senior Brandon Cotten (Wiconisco, Pa./Williams Valley) and junior Ian Lindsay (Oaklyn/Haddon Twp.).
Cotten leads the team with 30 hits and 17 runs scored, while stealing 11 bases in 12 attempts. Lindsay leads the team with a .304 batting average.
Pitching for the Broncs against NJIT will be freshman David Hafer (Pine Grove, PA). Hafer is 0-1 in two starts and has 16 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched.
Following the NJIT game the Broncs return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action with a three game series at Fairfield Saturday (doubleheader) and Monday.
