Manhattan College 7, Rider University 0
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
NEW YORK, N.Y.--The Rider University women's tennis team opened the fall 2011 season with a 7-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss against Manhattan College Saturday afternoon.
For Rider (0-1, 0-1 MAAC), junior Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) won three games at first singles before losing 6-3, 6-0 with senior Tricia Ashmore (Sparta) winning four games before being defeated 6-4, 6-0 at number two singles.
"Manhattan was a more experienced team," said head coach Ed Torres. "Combine that with the fact that we haven't had too much practice with all of the rain the past few weeks."
Junior Jaclyn Giameo (Roselle Park) and sophomore Kim Leder (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) put up a battle at third doubles before an 8-4 defeat.
The Jaspers also defeated Rider 7-0 in the fall of 2010 and defeated the Broncs 5-2 in the spring of 2010.
"Manhattan was steadier," Torres added. "They made less errors and just played better than we did. We had some nice rallies but they were better than we were today."
The Broncs travel to Fairfield for a MAAC match on September 21 at 2pm.
