MAAC Honors Smith

LAWRENCEVILLE-Sophomore Tyler Smith of the Rider University baseball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for all games played April 4-10.  "Tyler was outstanding this week," said Rider head coach Barry Davis. "It is well deserved."

Smith (Westmont/Haddon Twp.), a 6'2" lefty closer, collected four saves last week, leading Rider to a 4-0 week. "Certainly he had a very important role in all four wins," Davis said.

Smith pitched four and two-thirds innings over four games and struck out six batters last week while walking just one.

Smith struck out the side in the ninth inning in a 4-2 win at Marist to sweep the MAAC three-game series. "Tyler did a great job out of the bullpen," Davis said.

Smith now has nine saves this season and 18 for his career. ""He's pretty dependable," Davis said.

Rider hosts Monmouth Tuesday.
