LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's soccer team was on the wrong side of a 1-0 loss to Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at ben Cohen Field. With the loss, the Broncs fall to a record of 4-2-1 with a 0-1 record in conference. The Bobcats improve their record to 3-3-0 with the result.
The Broncs held the ball well to start the match with the possession leaning the way of Rider through the first part of the first half.
Chiemeka Azurunwa logged the first shot on goal for the Broncs of the game in the 21
st minute, sending his shot low and to the near post with the keeper coming up with a save. Quinnipiac broke the deadlock in the 40
th minute, rebounding on a
Marius Helias save and a block on the line to score on their third shot while heading into the halftime break five minutes later with a 1-0 lead.
Rider held off a promising Bobcats attack in the 52
nd minute, with Helias coming up with a save to keep the Broncs in the game. The Broncs had more opportunities through the middle part of the second half, with both
Ryan Vaubel and Azurunwa having shots saved in the 71
st and 74
th minutes respectively. Men's soccer was unable to capitalize on anymore opportunities from then on, rounding out the result.
