BUFFALO, NY – The Rider University men's soccer team were on the right side of a 4-1 victory against Canisius in upstate New York on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs move to an overall record of 5-2-1 while leveling their record to 1-1-0 through the first two game of the young Metro season. Canisius falls to a record of 1-7-0 while also falling to an 0-2-0 record in the Metro.
Rider started the scoring early, as
Ryan Vaubel converted on the first shot of the game for the Broncs to take a 1-0 lead in the 9
th minute of the match. Both
Drew Heil and
Axel Lucas were accredited with assists on the goal.
Vaubel recorded another shot on goal in the 11
th minute, having his shot saved. The Broncs went on the march for the rest of the first half, logging three more shots in the Golden Griffins half of the field.
Marius Helias was called into make a save during Canisius' only attempt on target of the half in the 40
th minute.
Patryk Rojek logged an attempt on goal, with his shot being saved in the 43
rd minute to take the teams into halftime with a 1-0 score line in favor of the visitors.
The Broncs scored in the 53
rd minute to start the second half, as
Michael Holliday converted on goal for his first score of the year to make it 2-0. Holliday's fellow defender,
Jacobo Cruz, converted for his own first goal of the year later in the 68
th minute to take a 3-0 lead in Buffalo.
Canisius made things interesting in the 73
rd minute, scoring to cut the deficit to two goals with a 3-1 score line and 17 minutes left to play. But the Broncs dispatched anymore worry in the 84
th minute, as
Gavin Faracchio scored his second goal of the year to make it 4-1 and round of the win in favor of Rider.
