Lacrosse Defeated at Quinnipiac

Box Score HAMDEN, CT – The Rider University women's lacrosse team struggled Saturday afternoon, falling at Quinnipiac 18-13. The Broncs fall to 8-5 on the season and 2-3 in MAAC play, while the Bobcats improve to 2-9 overall and 1-4 in league games.

After Toni Gismondi (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford[VCU]) opened the scoring in the game, the Bobcats responded with four-straight goals over the next four minutes. The Broncs did have an answer as Kylee Garcia (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville[FDU-Florham]) found the back of the net, then she fed Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ/Camden Catholic[FDU-Florham]) before Selena Carrington (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North[Rutgers]) scored back-to-back goals, giving Rider a 5-4 lead. Just before the end of the quarter, the Bobcats scored tying the game 5-5 through 15 minutes.

Both defenses settled in during the second quarter. After Rider scored to go up 6-5, the Bobcats went on a 3-0 run to close out the half, giving Quinnipiac an 8-6 lead at the break.

Carrington would complete her hat trick, opening the scoring in the third, but Quinnipiac answered with three-straight goals, extending the lead to 11-7. Rider countered with a three-goal rally of its own on goals by Maggie Hance (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central), Garcia, and Walsh, but the Bobcats would close out the third with another three-goal run to enter the final 15 minutes leading 14-10.

Emily Wesoky (Sterling, VA/Dominion[Wagner]) and Walsh scored to open the fourth, pulling the Broncs back to within 14-12, but Quinnipiac closed the game on a 4-1 run to secure the victory.
