Men's Golf Shaves 19 Strokes, Shoots 292 Saturday at Battle at Rum Pointe

Bekefi finishes 11th individually, Broncs take 7th

BERLIN, MD – Rider University men's golf graduate student Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) shot even-par 72 Saturday to finish the tournament +4, good for 11th individually, as the Broncs shaved 19 strokes off their first round score to shoot 292 on the round and 603 (+27) for the tournament and finish seventh at the Battle at Rum Pointe, hosted by Iona at Rum Pointe Seaside Links. Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) led the Broncs Saturday with a one-under 71.

Pelle Ahlqvist (Habo, Joenkoeping, Sweden/Sandagymnasiet) added a 74 (+2) and finished 15th (150, +6), while the Broncs also counted Ben Ortwein's (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) 75 (+3). Mike McCrone (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) rounded out the Broncs' competitors with an 80 (+8).


NOTES
- Bekefi carded a team-best five birdies Saturday, while Ortwein and Giovacchini had four each.  
- La Salle won the team title at 590 (+1), a stroke ahead of Penn (591, +2).
- La Salle's Ben Battye broke 70 in both rounds with a 69 (-3) Friday and a 68 (-4) Saturday to win medalist honors (137, -7) by six strokes over the field.  
- The Broncs were one of seven MAAC schools in competition, joining Iona (593, +17, 3rd), Fairfield (598, +22, T-4th), Mount St. Mary's (598, +22, T-4th), Siena (601, +25, 6th), Manhattan (619, +43, 10th) and Saint Peter's (637, +61, 15th).

The Broncs make the short trip to the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7.
