Merriweather Qualifies for Championships of America at Penn Relays

Merriweather finishes 9th overall in prelims at Penn Relays Day 1

PHILADELPHIA, PA and EWING, NJ-  Marques Merriweather would highlight the Broncs Friday afternoon running a new PR in the 110m Hurdles at the 127th running of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania and Franklin Field.

Merriweather would finish 9th overall and qualify for the Championships of America set for tomorrow afternoon. Merriweather would run a 14.22 setting a new PR in the 110 Hurdles breaking his previous best of 14.33 set at IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships last year. The time is also good for a top 5 time in Rider program history.

The Broncs would get a great outing from the 4x100m relay team of Braeden Haines, Freddie Haynesworth IV, Jerome Boyer, and Artie Burgess. The team would go on to run an IC4A qualifying mark of 42.31.

Burgess's day would not end there as he would also have a strong showing finishing with an ECAC/IC4A qualifying time of 10.84 in the 100m.

Elsewhere in Ewing, Jayden DuBard and Jacob Eddinger would finish 4th and 7th hitting marks of 51.79m and 48.33m. For Eddinger, the 48.33m would break his previous best of 47.57m set last week at the Rider Invitational.

In the 1500m at the Lion Invite the Broncs would get a pair of top-three finishes with Jeremie Garcia and Leo Zaccaria finishing 2nd and 3rd with times of 4:02.61 and 4:03.96

QUOTES AND NOTES

"Merriweather had a great day. He qualified for the Championship of America final in the hurdles running a PR of 14.22. It is also the number 4 time all time. He's just such a great competitor and he doesn't let stuff bother him. He handled the conditions very well today and beat a lot of good people. He has a great opportunity tomorrow. It will be exciting…. Jacob Eddinger had a strong day in the hammer. He set a new PR of 48.33m. This will give him great confidence and momentum going into the conference championships. "- Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer

Rider Women's Track and Field will be back in action at the Penn Relays and TCNJ Lion Invite tomorrow April 29th.
