Ortwein Finishes 2nd, Men's Golf 5th at ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational

Ortwein shoots three-under 69 Monday

EASTON, PA – Ben Ortwein (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) shot a three-under 69 to finish tied for second at 140 (-4) for the tournament and lead the Rider University men's golf team to a fifth place finish at the ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational at Northampton Country Club, hosted by Lafayette on Monday. Lehigh won the team title at 570 (-6), seven strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Fairfield's Killian McGinley won medalist honors at 136 (-8), four strokes ahead of Ortwein and Lehigh's Aidan Oehrle.

After a first-round 69, Louis Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) shot 76 (+4) Monday to finish at 145, good for a tie for 15th. Rick van der Nat (Noordwijk, The Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft) shot 77 (+5) Monday and 150 (+6) for the tournament to finish tied for 49th, while Joey Lostumbo (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) bounced back from an off first round to shoot even-par 72 Monday and 152 (+8), good for 59th in the tournament. Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) rounded out the field for the Broncs with a 79 (+7) Monday and a 153 (+9, T-63rd) for the tournament.

- The Broncs were one of six MAAC programs competing in the tournament, joining Fairfield (577, T-2nd), Iona (580, T-4th), Mount St. Mary's (588, 6th), Canisius (598, T-12th) and Niagara (609, 17th).
- Rider had the fourth-best score on the Par 5's (-7) for the tournament.
- The Broncs also had the second-most pars in the tournament with 118, one back of La Salle (119).
- Bekefi shot -1 on the Par 3's, the second-best score of the tournament.
- Ortwein's -1 on the Par 4's was fourth-best, as was his four-under performance on the Par 5's.
- Ortwein had 26 pars for the tournament, three back of the most (Patrick McCarthy, Fairfield – 29).
- Ortwein and Giovacchini led the Broncs with seven birdies apiece over the 36 holes.
