Men's Golf Finishes 2nd at Battle at Rum Pointe

Bekefi leads Broncs with 5th-place finish, Urban shoots two-under 70 Sunday

BERLIN, MD – Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) shot under par in both rounds to finish fifth individually (139, -5) as the Rider University men's golf team held onto second place out of 17 teams at the Battle at Rum Pointe, hosted by Iona at Rum Pointe Seaside Links Sunday. The Broncs followed up their first-round 284 (-4) with a second-round 291 (+3) to finish the tournament at 575 (-1). LIU ran away with the team title at 561 (-16).

After struggling with a first-round 79 (+7), Jack Urban (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) delivered the Broncs' low round Sunday with a two-under 70 to finish the tournament at 149 (+5), good for a tie for 33rd. Bekefi was a stroke back at 71 (-1) and finished tied for fifth at 139 (-5). Zander Gibson (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) each shot 75 (+3) in the second round. Gibson finished the tournament at 146 (+3, 20th), while Giovacchini shot consecutive 75's to finish at 150 (+6, T-45th). Ben Ortwein (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) shot 79 (+7) Sunday following a first-round 70 to finish at 149 (+5, T-33rd).

- Seven of nine MAAC schools competed at Rum Pointe this weekend, with only the league's Western New York faction of Canisius and Niagara not taking part. The Broncs (575, -1) finished the tournament with the top score in the league, ahead of Iona (576, -1, T-3rd), Siena (581, +4, T-5th), Mount St. Mary's (586, +10, 8th), Fairfield (593, +12, T-9th), Saint Peter's (609, +33, T-13th) and Manhattan (609, +33, T-13th).
- Sacred Heart's Marcus Lim shot a final-round 66 to finish the tournament at 135 (-9) to take medalist honors. LIU's Kyle Underwood shot the low round of the day and the tournament at 65 (-7) to finish the tournament at 136 (-8), good for second.

The Broncs return to action Monday, April 3, when they take part in the Columbia Spring Invitational at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, PA.
