Men's Golf 12th of 18 Teams Through Two Rounds at Bash at the Beach

Urban leads Broncs at even-par 142 (T-16th)

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Jack Urban (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) shot even par (142) to sit tied for 16th individually and the Rider University men's golf team is 12th of 18 teams following two rounds at the season-opening Bash at the Beach, hosted by Appalachian State Monday at The Surf Golf and Beach Club. Rider shot 291 (+7) in the first round, before carding a 296 (+12) in the afternoon.

Urban shot one-over 72 in the morning round, before shaving two strokes off in the afternoon at 70 (-1). Ben Ortwein (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) was the Broncs' next-best finisher, bouncing back from a six-over 77 in the morning to shoot even-par 71 in the afternoon. Zander Gibson (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) each started the day strong at one-over 72 in the morning round, before shooting 77 and 78, respectively, in the afternoon. Rick van der Nat (Noordwijk, The Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft) rounded out the Broncs' five in the starting line-up with a 75-82-157. Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) also competed as an individual and shot the second-best score among Rider golfers at 70-74-144, good or a tie for 26th.

- Oral Roberts carded consecutive 281's for a two-round score of 562 (-6) to lead the team scoring.
- Host Appalachian State (566, -2) and Connecticut (567, -1) also sit under par following two rounds.
- The Broncs are the only MAAC team in competition.  
- The Broncs' 32 birdies through two rounds are third-most, behind only Oral Roberts' 36 and Utah Valley's 33.
- Ortwein tied for the best performance on the Par 3's at -2.
- Gibson shot the second-best score on the Par 5's at -4.
