Wrestling Drops Dual to #18 Rutgers

Broncs fall 26-9 despite wins by Laird and Szuba

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ Ethan Laird and David Szuba were able to pick up victories, but Rider Wrestling fell to #18 Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Rider falls to 2-2 on the year, dropping each of the last two duals vs B1G opponents (Penn State, Dec. 2). The Broncs are 1-2 on the season against B1G opponents, including a Nov. 13 win at Purdue.

Rutgers was able to dominate the competition in each of the first eight bouts until 197. At 197, Laird was able to get back on track with a 6-1 decision win over Billy Janzer.

Rider's next win would come moments later as David Szuba was able to win by medical forfeit over #24 Boone McDermott. Szuba would get a pair of takedowns to control the bout before McDermott would eventually call the match heading into the final period.

Quotes and Notes
"It wasn't what we were hoping for it's exactly what I said would happen if they let it happen and they let it happen. It's on our guys we prepared to get off the bottom, we prepared to take the wrestling to them and we didn't."

"David wrestled very well, and I need that David every time cause that David wins matches at heavyweight. You can't throw caution to the win because if you get thrown at heavyweight you are not getting back up. That performance needs to be consistent because he is that good."- Rider Wrestling Head Coach John Hangey

- Rider's lead in the all-time series was cut to 12-11. The Scarlet Knights have now won the last nine duals.
- The Broncs return to action next Friday when they travel to MAC foe Bloomsburg at 2 p.m.
