Hangey enters his ninth year as the head coach for the Broncs in 2025-26 with a 67-44 overall record. In 2020-21, Hangey led the Broncs to a breakthrough season as they finished 24th in the final dual meet rankings, placed third as a team at the MAC Championships, had six NCAA Qualifiers, a Top 20 team finish at the NCAA’s and had the programs first-ever NCAA Finalist in Jesse Dellavecchia. Dellavecchia made the National Finals as the fourth seed at 157 lbs. and pinned Ryan Deakin, the No. 1 seed from Northwestern in the semifinals to reach this milestone. Following the team’s third-place finish at MAC Championships, Hangey was named the Co-MAC Coach of the Year along with Brian Smith from Missouri.

It was another strong season for the Broncs in 2024-25, earning a dual meet win over 24th-ranked Maryland during the regular season before taking fifth at the MAC Championships behind four individual champions. At the NCAA Championships, Sammy Alvarez took seventh to earn the sixth All-America honor in Hangey's time as head coach.

Hangey and the Broncs secured a second-straight MAC East Division Dual Meet Championship in 2023-24 with a perfect 8-0 mark in conference duals. Quinn Kinner earned the fifth All-America honor under Hangey with an 8th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

During Hangey’s first four seasons he has had several significant dual meet wins. In his inaugural season, the Broncs defeated Iowa State for his first win as the Rider Head Coach.  During the 2019-20 season, his team defeated No. 6 Minnesota on the road and won the prestigious Virginia Duals, defeating No. 17 Virginia in the finals. The Broncs also traveled to No. 25 Lehigh and defeated the Mountain Hawks, 17-15, in 2020-21. In addition, Hangey entered the 2021-22 season with a 9-1 conference dual record in the MAC and the Broncs were recognized as MAC East Champions during the 2019-20 season. Hangey has also coached four All Americans in his first seven seasons; Jesse Dellavecchia (4th in 2021, NWCA First Team in 2020) and Ethan Laird (8th in 2022-23, NWCA Honorable Mention I 2020).

Hangey was a Division I All American for the Broncs, finishing fourth in the nation at 190 pounds in his senior season in 1993. He was also a three-time conference champion, three-time NCAA Qualifier and the only Bronc to ever win a Midlands Championship. He is also a member of the Rider Athletics Hall of Fame.
