Men's Soccer Falls to Manhattan In MAAC Opener

Jaspers' Da Silva scores twice

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Manhattan got a pair of Ronaldo Da Silva goals en route to a 3-0 win over the Rider University men's soccer team Wednesday night on Ben Cohen Field in the MAAC opener for both teams. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-6-1 (0-1-0 MAAC), while the Jaspers are now 3-3-2 (1-0-0 MAAC).

Da Silva opened the scoring in the 25th minute, knocking in an Omar Torres cross from the left post. Still 1-0 at the half, Da Silva again was the beneficiary of solid Manhattan connection in the 54th minute, as Anthony Denis played Gunnar Studenhofft down the right sideline, before Da Silva finished in front off Studenhofft's cross. The Jaspers would tack on another goal in the 61st minute, as Johan Velez scored his team-leading fourth goal of the year off a Dorian Bounab assist.

Quotes & Notes
"I'm not an excuses guy. But we played without our two best players tonight and we're missing one of the best forwards in the country. So it makes us a different team. But guess what: life could be worse. It's been difficult. But we've got to be mature and fight our way through it." – Rider Head Coach Charlie Inverso
