Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Plays Iona to Scoreless Draw

Veinante, Broncs' defense post second shutout of the year

NEW ROCHELLE, NYGuillaume Veinante (Bayonne, France/Faculte des métier de Rennes) made five saves as the Rider University men's soccer team played Iona to a scoreless draw Wednesday afternoon on Mazzella Field. With the tie, the Broncs move to 1-6-2 (0-1-1 MAAC), while the Gaels are now 2-3-2 (1-0-1 MAAC).

Iona took a 14-6 edge in shots, including a 5-1 edge in shots on goal. Rider had a pair of good chances in the game. In the 30th minute, Guillaume Sarrabayrouse (Toulose, France/Pierre Paul Riquet) nearly caught Iona keeper Juan Alfaro Monge out of his net from 40 yards out, but the shot that was put just underneath the crossbar was knocked out by the backpedaling Alfaro Monge.

While it was technically the lone shot on goal for the Broncs, Jack McGeechan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) had arguably the best chance for the Broncs in the 62nd minute. The Broncs sent a ball into the box that Alfaro Monge punched out to McGeechan just outside the 18-yard box. McGeechan rifled a strike that rang off the crossbar.
