Giovacchini Shoots Even Par 72, Men's Golf Shoots 295 in 1st Round at Hartford Hawks Invitational

Broncs sit 14th of 16 teams in bunched tournament field after 1st round

SOUTH KENT, CT – Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) shot an even-par 72 and the Rider University men's golf team shot 295 (+7) to open play at the Hartford Hawks Invitational Monday at Bulls Bridge Golf Club. Giovacchini sits tied for 26th individually, while the Broncs are 14th out of 16 teams, 11 strokes back of leaders UCF and Fairfield in a bunched field. The second round of the day was suspended with the Broncs still on the course. The completion of the second round, followed by the third, and final round, is scheduled for Tuesday.

Rick van der Nat (Noordwijk, The Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft) is a stroke back of Giovacchini at 73 (+1), while Jack Urban (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Ben Ortwein (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) both shot 75 (+3). Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) also competed and shot a four-over 76.

- The Broncs are one of four MAAC programs playing in the tournament, joining Fairfield (284, -4, T1st), Mount St. Mary's (287, -1, 7th) and Manhattan (309, +21, 16th).  
- UCF and Fairfield each shot 284, ahead of Towson and Connecticut at 285, Bryant and Fairleigh Dickinson at 286, Mount St. Mary's at 287, Sacred Heart and LIU at 288 and La Salle at 289 for a Top 10 separated by just five strokes.
- Fairfield's Killian McGinley leads the individual leaderboard at 67 (-5).
