TROY, NY – The Rider University women's tennis team opened the 2022-23 season at the Siena Invitational on Friday. The Broncs completed a successful day, achieving seven wins. Six of Rider's athletes are still alive in competition after the first day of the Siena Invitational. 

"Watching our first year players compete like they were experienced veterans was the highlight of the day," said Rider Head Coach Tom Battaglia. "The moment wasn't too big for them. They were ready for the challenge and they responded."

In doubles, Andrea Sydow and Jett Coetzee defeated RPI's Natalie Cipriano and Krisia Flores, 6-4. Coetzee defeated RPI's Nitya Subramaniam, 8-5, in the B Flight before falling to St. Francis Brooklyn's Ximena Cano, 8-4, in the second round. Also in the B Flight, Daniela Naves Anzaldo defeated Siena's Reegan Mullaney, 8-3, before being defeated 8-2 by Seton Hall's Hiba El Khalifi.  

Agnese Ceccarelli, Sydow, and Samantha Killin all bounced back from first-round singles losses to defeat their opponents and continue on tomorrow in the semifinals. Newcomer Sofia Guitierrez is also still alive in the consolation semifinals following a walkover. 

The Broncs return to Siena Invitational action Saturday morning.
