LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro), Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany/Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt), Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) and Chloe Monachelli (Somers, NY/Somers) each earned singles victories as the Rider University women's tennis team defeated Marist, 4-3, on Sunday. With the win, the Broncs (8-11, 4-2 MAAC) clinched their first MAAC Championship berth since 2010, when all teams qualified. The six-team tournament begins with quarterfinal matches on Friday, April 25 at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. Marist falls to 10-7 (3-3 MAAC) with the loss.

After the Red Foxes swept the doubles point, the Broncs earned singles wins at four of the top five flights to earn the match victory. Fishman outlasted Caterina Assi, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5, at No. 1, while Buss got past Viktoria Lorentzon, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 2.

Naves outbattled Lola Ungerman, 7-5, 7-6 (2), at No. 4, while Monachelli battled back from down a set to defeat Vihana Shresta, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5. A fifth singles match went to a third set, with Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) eventually falling to Ella Lindsey, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3, at No. 6.

The Broncs return to action Tuesday, when they play host to Siena at 2 p.m.
