Field Hockey Announces 2022 Schedule

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The 2022 Rider University field hockey team will play, a neutral site game against Bellarmine to open the season, a pair of non-conference home games against Colgate and Appalachian State, and non-conference road trips to Towson, La Salle, Lock Haven, Drexel, Georgetown, nationally-ranked American, and Hofstra, Rider Head Coach Lori Hussong has announced. The Broncs open NEC play on Sept. 30 at St. Francis (PA).
 
Bellarmine University

Series History: Rider leads 1-0
Of Note: The Knights played their first season at the NCAA Division I level in 2020-21. In the first ever meeting between the programs last season, Rider scored twice in the first half, before pulling away for a 5-1 victory. Abby Hartwell scored twice in the win.

Of Note: Rider has won 10 of the last 11 against the Raiders, including a 2-1 victory last season. Julia Divorra scored with just 1:26 remaining in regulation to give the Broncs the win.
 
Appalachian State University

Series History: Rider leads 7-1
Of Note: Rider won the first seven meetings between the programs, spanning from 2004-14, but the Mountaineers secured a 4-3 overtime win in the most recent meeting in 2018.

Series History: Rider leads 19-4-1
Of Note: The Broncs have won eight straight over the Tigers. Last season, Julia Divorra scored 7:31 into the extra session to secure the victory for Rider.
 
La Salle University

Series History:  Rider leads 27-10-1
Of Note: Rider won the season opener over the Explorers last season, 3-2, in overtime with Julia Divorra getting the game-winner 6:20 into the extra period. Each of the last eight games in the series have been decided by a single goal.
 
Lock Haven University

Series History: Lock Haven leads 12-6
Of Note: The last seven games in the series have been one goal contests, including shootouts in 2017 and 18. Rider broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third quarter last season, and did not allow another shot on cage for the remainder of the game to secure the win.

Of Note: Drexel scored three goals in the opening five minutes of the game last season, and held on for a 4-3 victory.

Of Note: Kaitlyn Tomas made a pair of saves for her fifth career solo shutout in the Broncs' 2-0 victory last season.

Series History: Rider leads 20-2
Of Note: Rider has won five straight against the Red Flash. In a must-win game late last season, the Broncs jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held on for a 2-1 victory to keep their postseason hopes alive.


American University

Series History: American leads 8-3-1
Of Note: These teams have not met since the 2003 season. American allowed just three goals in conference play last season, claiming the Patriot League Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament, while climbing to 15 in the NFHCA rankings. Their season finally came to an end in the first round of the tournament with a 3-2 loss to third-ranked Iowa.

Of Note: Rider fell twice to the Stags last season, dropping a 2-0 contest in the regular season and a 2-1 game in the opening round of the NEC Tournament. Fairfield went on to the NCAA Tournament opening round, falling to Delaware in overtime.
 
Sacred Heart University

Series History: Rider leads 25-8
Of Note: Rider defeated the Pioneers, 3-2, last season in the final conference game of the year to secure a spot in the conference tournament. Carly Brosious scored the game-winning goal with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Of Note: Stonehill College joins the NEC ahead of the 2022-23 season after making the leap from Division II. The Skyhawks ended last season ranked no. 10 in the NFHCA Division II poll.

Of Note: The Sharks defeated the Broncs last season for the first time since the merger of LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post in 2019. Either the Broncs or Sharks have appeared in the NEC title game in each of the three seasons since the NEC reformed the league in 2019, with the teams meeting in the championship game two seasons ago.

Of Note: Wagner got a penalty stroke with less than three minutes remaining in a tie game last season, converting to take a 2-1 lead. Rider had a pair of shot get by the Wagner goalie in the final 90 seconds of the game, but a pair of defensive saves preserved the Seahawks win.
