Men's Golf Hold Strong in 3rd Place After 2nd Round at MAAC Championships

van der Nat, Giovacchini lead Rider at even par Saturday, Devereux remains tied for 3rd

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Rick van der Nat (Noordwijk, The Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft) and Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) led the Rider University men's golf team with a pair of even-par 72's as the Broncs shot 290 Saturday to remain third of nine teams at MAAC Championships, held at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course. Austin Devereux (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) shot a one-over 73 to move to even par for the tournament, good for a tie for third on the individual leaderboard, five strokes back of Iona's Justin Burkhamer for the lead.

Jack Urban (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) matched Devereux's one-over 73, while Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) rounded out the Broncs' performers with a three-over 75.

- Devereux sits tied with three other golfers for third, a stroke back of Iona's Garrett Giles (-1) for second. Iona's Justin Burkhamer has a four-stroke lead (-5) heading into the final round.
- Iona leads the team scoring at 580 (+4), three strokes ahead of Fairfield (583, +7). Rider is third at 586 (+10), ahead of Monmouth (593, +17), Siena (594, +18), Saint Peter's (598, +22), Canisius (601, +25), Niagara (613, +37) and Manhattan (634, +58).
- Rider has the most birdies for the tournament thus far with 28, including a tournament-best nine from Urban and seven from Giovacchini.
- Devereux continues to lead the field with a -2 performance on the Par 3's.
- Devereux is defending his McLeod Trophy as last year's MAAC Individual Champion.

UP NEXT

The Broncs conclude MAAC Championship play Sunday from Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL. The first Bronc to tee off will be Bekefi at 9 a.m., followed in nine-minute increments by Urban, Giovacchini, van der Nat and Devereux.
