Devereux Shoots One-Under, Men's Golf Tied For 3rd Following 1st Round at MAAC Championships

Devereux sits one stroke off the individual lead

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – Graduate student Austin Devereux (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) shot a one-under 71 and sits a stroke back of the individual leaderboard, while the Rider University men's golf team shot 296 and is tied for third following the first round of the MAAC Men's Golf Championships at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course.

Devereux is currently in fourth, a stroke back of a pair of Iona golfers and one from Niagara. Rick van der Nat (Noordwijk, The Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft) sits tied for 12th at 74 (+2), while Jack Urban (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) is another stroke back at 75 (+3), good for a tie for 18th. Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) is tied for 27th at 76 (+4), while Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) struggled with an 87 (+15) for 45th place.

- Iona's Justin Burkhamer and Gonzalo Arcelay, along with Niagara's Lincoln Cizek sit atop the individual leaderboard at 70 (-2), a stroke ahead of Devereux (71, -1).
- Iona leads the team scoring at 287, while Siena is second at 294. The Broncs and Fairfield are tied for third at 296, ahead of Canisius (299), Monmouth (299), Niagara (302), Saint Peter's (303) and Manhattan (314).
- The Broncs led all teams with an even-par performance on the Par 3's Friday.
- Rider's 13 birdies also tied for the most on the round. Devereux led the Broncs with four, while Urban and Giovacchini had three each.
- Devereux did his best work on the Par 3's, shooting birdie on the first two and par on the last two for a round-best -2 performance.
- Devereux is defending his McLeod Trophy as last year's MAAC Individual Champion.

UP NEXT

The Broncs return to action Saturday, when they continue play at MAAC Championships at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL. The second round will be played Saturday, while the third, and final, round will be played Sunday. The first Bronc to tee off Saturday will be Bekefi at 9 a.m., followed in nine-minute increments by Giovacchini, Urban, van der Nat and Devereux.
