LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Richie Koehler and #25
Quinn Kinner stayed clean on the day, but the Rider Broncs fell to both the Lock Haven Bald Eagles, 24-10, and the #20 Princeton Tigers, 33-7, in Alumni Gym Sunday afternoon. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 2-7, 2-3 MAC, while Lock Haven improves to 8-5, 4-1 MAC and Princeton improves to 5-3.
Against Lock Haven in the MAC dual, Koehler earned a hard-fought victory after overtime and two 30-second tiebreaker sessions to win the matchup. Kinner and
Cole McComas would continue the momentum, pushing the Rider lead to 10-4 before Lock Haven took two major decisions in a row to reclaim the lead and subsequently the match, 24-10.
In the Battle of 206 versus Princeton, the Tigers took a major decision to start, but that would not go unanswered, Rider earnied a decision from Koehler at 133 and McComas at 149 and a major decision from Kinner at 141 to push the Broncs ahead. The Tigers would strike back, taking the next two to crush the Rider momentum and build their own lead and claim the remaining bouts for the 33-7 victory.
Quotes and Notes
"We need people to step up. Embrace the opportunity when they get scoring opportunities. Get a little dirty, grind a little bit.
Richie had a good day and found a way to win.
"– Rider University Wrestling Head Coach John Hangey
"When it comes to March you want to win those close matches. I think we competed hard and need a reality check. Granted we have some injuries, but kids have to step up and we have to win the matches we aren't favored to win.
When you get the opportunity to be in the lineup you need to take it. Make the most of the opportunity. Get in that match and do whatever it takes."
– Rider Wrestler Richie Koehler
