Perales Named NEC Co-Offensive Player and Co-Rookie of the Week

SOMERSET, NJ – The NEC announced its selections for weekly field hockey honors and Valeria Perales was chosen as NEC Co-Offensive Player and Co-Rookie of the Week. Additionally, Semra Said and Kaitlyn Tomas were selected as Prime Performers. It is the third time Perales has earned Offensive Player of the Week honors and the fourth time she has been selected as Rookie of the Week.

Perales has quickly gone from having one of the best seasons by a freshman as a Bronc, to having one of the greatest offensive seasons in program history. In Rider's 8-0 win over Stonehill on Friday, Perales had two goals and two assists. She followed up that performance with a goal and two assists in the Broncs' 4-1 win over Bryant on Sunday. For the season, Perales leads the NEC in goals and assists. With four games remaining in the regular season, Perales ranks 14th in program history in single-season goals, 24th in program history in single-season assists, and 11th in program history in single-season points. Nationally, she ranks fifth in goals per game and third in points per game.

Tomas made six saves and allowed just a single goal across the 2-0 week. Against Stonehill, Tomas needed to make just a single save in 39 minutes of action as the Broncs used three goalies to combine for a shutout win. Against Bryant, Tomas made five saves while allowing just a single goal in a 4-1 victory.

Said scored a pair of goals in both of Rider's games. In the win at Stonehill, Said scored the first goal of the game for the first game-winning goal of her career. Then, against Bryant, Said scored the Broncs first goal to tie the game, and scored Rider's third goal to extend the lead.

Rider returns to action on Friday when the Broncs play a key conference game at LIU. Game time is 3 p.m.
