Men's Golf Opens 2021-22 at Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational

Devereux (+2) leads Rider after two rounds

HAMILTON, NY – Rider University graduate student men's golfer Austin Devereux (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) shot an even-par 72 in the first round and a two-over 74 to sit tied for 17th after Day 1 at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational, hosted by Colgate, Saturday at Seven Oaks Golf Course. As a team, the Broncs are 15th of 15 teams (308-302=610, +34).  

Devereux played a very even first round, with two bogey's, two birdies and 14 pars. His second round was also solid, with three bogeys and one birdie as the holes played off par. In his first rounds as a Bronc, Jack Urban (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) carded consecutive five-over 77's and sits tied for 49th.

Nick Hano (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks West) was a shot back of Urban (155, +11) in 55th, while Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) shot a 12-over 156 on the day. Joey Lostumbo (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was next with a 13-over 157, while Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) rounded out the Broncs' performers with a 159 (+15).

Starting on the 15th hole, Devereux opened with two par's, a bogey and a birdie, before making the turn and making par on the next 10 holes. Devereux parred 13 of 18 holes on the day, while carding four bogeys and a double bogey. After bogeying the Par 3 11th hole, his 15th hole played, Devereux birdied the Par 5 12th hole to bring his score back to even par.

NOTES
- Yale leads the team field at 572 (-4) and was the only team to finish the day under par.
- Colgate's Dugan McCabe and Yale's Teddy Zinsner lead the field at -3 (141).
- Urban, Lostumbo and Giovacchini were making their Rider debuts.
- A year after becoming Rider's first-ever MAAC Champion and an NCAA Qualifier while posting a 73.15 stroke average, Devereux shot to the neighborhood of his stroke average at 73.

The third, and final, round of the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational is scheduled for tomorrow at 9 a.m.
